We’ve all had that moment. You saw a beautiful planner spread on social media, which led to a search on Pinterest or YouTube, and before you knew it, you’re falling down a rabbit hole into the world of decorative planning, planner stickers, and washi tape.
I don’t know about you, but from that moment on, my planner sticker collection grew until I had more supplies than I could possibly use. I realized I needed to reconcile my love for creatively planning, with my minimalist lifestyle. Over time, I’ve simplified a giant planner sticker collection into an amount I can realistically use so that planning remains both fun and functional.
Today, I’m sharing how I organize my planner sticker collection and some of the ways I maintain a functional sticker collection as both a minimalist and creative planning enthusiast! Read on for all the details, or click over to YouTube to watch this in video form.
Know Your Goal
Do you consider yourself a minimalist, or a professional planner sticker collector? There’s no wrong answer, but when it comes to organization, it’s great to know your personal goal. Envision the size of collection that would best work with your lifestyle.
Limit Space
A tip I love for any organizing project, is to create a defined amount of space for each category of item. I limit myself to one 5” x 7” sticker binder (mine is from Shine Sticker Studio) and a few Happy Planner sticker books. Everything has to fit on my supply cart in my studio!
Having a space limit means I can tell when it’s time to shop my stash and when it’s ok to buy some new planner stickers!
Categorize Your Collection
Labeling my sticker collection by topics like “work”, “self care”, “Christmas”, and so on, has ensured that I can find the exact sticker I’m looking for - and I can actually use up the beautiful stickers I love.
Shop Your Stash
It’s tempting to hoard stickers to save them for the “perfect spot” in your planner. But I want to encourage you to use them up in your planners and journals now, instead of waiting for the perfect time to use them. Otherwise, I’ve found the excitement of new stickers can wear off and then you miss out on using them entirely.
Shop Mindfully
Using these tips will allow you to shop for new stickers wisely, knowing you’ll actually use what you buy! Organizing by category can help you determine what kind of stickers you tend to use the most, as well as the kind of stickers you don’t gravitate to as often. Happy shopping!
So those are a few ways I keep a minimal planner sticker stash. It’s been so much more fun for me to have a small collection. I actually use my stickers more, because it is easy to find what I’m looking for!
